About the Scholarship
Founded in 2022, The LSM H.O.P.E Foundation’s mission is to provide resources, services, and support to individuals in need of assistance to thrive and survive; With a vision to create opportunities for disabled and at-risk populations to improve their quality of life; And a purpose to increase access to education and other resources to help those in need live the best life possible.
Scholarship Description
The LSM HOPE scholarships of $1000 and $500 honor the legacy of Leroy S. McCoy Sr. whose life was dedicated to helping his family and others. He had a passion for learning and helping others, especially families, children, the elderly, and anyone who was in need. Our desire is to use him as an example to impact the community in a positive way.
Who Can Apply?
High school seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 who have enrolled or plan to enroll in institutions of higher learning in the current academic year are encouraged to apply based upon the criteria listed below
- Applicant must be experiencing financial difficulty or hardship.
- Applicant must have a special need or circumstance
- Applicant must have recent community involvement
- Applicant must have all required documents: Application, Typed Essay, Copy of High School Transcript, Copy of SAT or ACT Score and at least two references (Academic, Professional, or Character)
- Applicant must be a high school graduate with at least a 2.5 GPA in the current academic year.
- Applicant must complete the application and submit transcript, SAT or ACT score and essay to dmccoy@lsmhope.org by
June 15th, 2024 no later than 5:00 PM.
Criteria For Selection
- Scholastic ability: Copy of SAT or ACT scores and high school transcript
- Application
- Typed 800-word essay: Theme “Based on your life experiences, if you could start your own charity, what would your mission be and why? Who would you serve? What kinds of acts of service would volunteers perform?”
- Acceptance letter from an institution of higher learning for Fall semester of the 2024 – 2025 academic year.
